Professional Experience

Since opening his law office in 2009, Alexis Haller has focused his practice on criminal appeals, habeas proceedings, civil appeals, and international civil litigation involving foreign sovereign immunity. Mr. Haller also assists other attorneys with complex motions in state and federal court.

From 1999 to 2009, Alexis Haller was first an associate and then a name partner at one of San Francisco’s leading boutique law firms. While at the firm, Mr. Haller handled a wide range of civil and criminal matters.

Education

Alexis Haller received his bachelor’s degree in history from Princeton University in 1995, where he graduated summa cum laude (highest honors). Mr. Haller received his juris doctor degree from Stanford Law School in 1998.

Admissions

Mr. Haller is a member of the bars of California and the District of Columbia. He is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and the United States Courts of Appeals for the Second, Sixth, Seventh, and Ninth Circuits.

AI & Legal Practice

Mr. Haller’s recent work focuses on artificial intelligence and its application to appellate practice:

  • Conducting a comparative evaluation of leading AI systems on complex federal criminal litigation, testing whether current models can reliably perform high-stakes legal analysis.
  • Developing a practitioner’s toolkit to help appellate attorneys effectively implement AI in their practice.
  • Convening the AI Appellate Group, a forum for California criminal defense appellate attorneys representing indigent clients to discuss practical applications of AI.

Outside the Office

Alexis Haller enjoys spending time with his family, reading, running, hiking, and surfing.
